Today, digital transformation is one of the top priorities in companies, associations and institutions. Although there is still a need for development in many places, more and more digitization projects are being implemented. To highlight the achievements of digitization and to highlight innovative approaches, Dimension Data and IDG Business Media have awarded the Digital Leader Award under the auspices of the current Federal Minister of Economics Brigitte Zypries. For the third year now, executives and project teams can apply for the award with their projects. Submissions will be accepted until 16 February 2018.


Munich, 15 November 2017 – Jan Willem Dees, CEO of Dimension Data Germany, and Michael Beilfuß, Executive Vice President of IDG Business Media GmbH, have jointly opened the application phase for the third edition of the Digital Leader Award (DLA). Companies, associations and institutions can now submit their digitization projects at www.digital-leader-award.de. The application deadline is February 16, 2018. The award ceremony will take place on June 28, 2018 in Berlin. Several hundred top decision-makers from business, media, science and politics are expected at the gala.

With the award, we want to make results visible and accessible to a broad audience. The Digital Leader Award provides an excellent platform for the much needed exchange between Germany’s thought leaders of digital transformation. “

Image result for digital leader award 2018According to the recent study “Digital Transformation and Cooperation with Startups in Large Enterprises in Germany and the US” by Etventure, GfK and YouGOV, significantly more large German companies have prioritized the digital transformation as one of the top 3 tasks compared to last year. Although only 50 percent of the surveyed companies set this priority, the number of digitization projects in Germany is increasing from year to year. In many places in companies, start-ups, associations, ministries or institutions sometimes first, sometimes courageous transformation projects are planned and implemented. So it’s high time to make the digital transformation visible – and thus on the one hand to create visibility for Germany’s pioneers and thought leaders, but at the same time to inspire third parties to understand the digital transformation equally as an opportunity and a necessity. This is exactly where the initiative of Dimension Data and IDG Business Media comes under the patronage of the current Federal Minister of Economics Brigitte Zypries.

New category structure covers the most important topics

With a total of seven categories, the competition takes into account the most important subject areas that companies are currently cultivating in the course of digitization. While the “Create Impact” category is aimed at holistic digitization projects, the “Shape Experience” and “Invent Markets” categories address products and services – both at the customer level and in the development of entire markets. Issues relating to work 4.0 will find their place in the newly created “Transform Culture” category as well as digitization projects in marketing, which can be submitted in the new “Rethink Marketing” category. Applications from the non-profit sector or public administration compete for the coveted trophies in the “Digitize Society” category. Long-term, complex strategies finally find a home in the equally new “Envision Strategy” category.

For the Digital Leader Award, project teams and individuals can apply online for their work at www.digital-leader-award.de. An independent jury of renowned digitalization experts, media, market research, politics and science will select the best projects from the field of participants. The winners will be announced in a festive gala on June 28, 2018 in Berlin.

The winners of 2017 include executives and teams from Axel Springer SE, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, Continental AG, Erwin Renz Metallwarenfabrik, FC Bayern Munich, the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics, Lufthansa Innovation Labs, the Molecular Health GmbH, the SPIE SAG Group GmbH and Vorwerk International.
