BOGO (buy-one-get-one-free) offers are the purview of fast food outlets and discount t-shirts in big box stores. This is not the arena in which airlines typically play. Yet here we are.
Alaska Airlines announced on September 18 that it was hosting a flash sale with BOGO tickets “to almost all of its destinations”. The sale runs from September 18 at 2 p.m. PT to September 20 at 11:59 p.m. PT. The details are mostly straightforward. Buy one main cabin ticket and get another free. However, maybe “free” belongs to the quotes. You’ll have to pay the taxes and fees on the second ticket, but you don’t pay the vast majority of the fare.
There are of course small print. Tickets must be on the same reservation and purchased at the same time. You will also need to deposit in the code “BOGOTIME” to make sure you get one for free. You will find flights available to travel from October 5 to December 15, 2021. So no vacation trip unless you get home very early. There are also blackout dates from November 18 to 29.
There are also some destination restrictions. Discount is not available on flights to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Costa Rica or Belize are valid Sunday through Wednesday. Trips from these same destinations are only available Tuesday through Friday. In addition, the conditions state that all other trips are only available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. If you use the code for days not listed above, a solo trip or on a first class ticket, you will only have to get a 10% discount on tickets.
So there are absolutely restrictions in place here. Still, if you can get around those rules, you might just have got yourself a seriously discounted trip to a fun place.
