LAS VEGAS (FOX5) – The local auto community is setting the record straight, after drivers were pulled over for high-speed races and donuts.

Car enthusiasts who live and work in the valley say they don’t want to be lumped in with the people doing donuts and burnouts near neighborhoods.

Brett Bergeron, the owner of Insane Power in Henderson, said most local auto groups don’t want to be disruptive.

He said they were following the rules and wanted other groups to do that as well.

“Drifters rent a track. Dragsters rent a track. Circular track guys rent a track. The auto show meets guys who get licenses and have all the right ways to do it. If you want to have it. these stunts and doing that stuff, praise it properly and do it with some respect for the rest of us. ”

Eight people were arrested last month for organizing side events.

Two of the suspects who coordinated the event came from California.

“We absolutely don’t approve of it. If you look at any post we’ve ever made it says no burnout, no ramp-up, please pick up your trash,” said Michael Christopher, owner of Las Vegas Car Meets.

Christopher created the group in 2015 to create a safe space for car enthusiasts. He said what is happening with foreigners illegally closing the streets to race has nothing to do with them.

“The biggest problem is it’s very difficult for law enforcement – I’m sure I can tell the difference. All of our cars look the same.”

Christopher also wants drivers interested in donuts and takeovers to have an outlet. He believes problems and complaints would be avoided if they had more options.

“You have the Las Vegas Motor Speedway which has events for the public, but I think they are too rare and they don’t cater to the younger generation of car enthusiasts as they should be,” he said. he declared.
