Global chemical company Scott Bader has acquired a new plant in Mocksville as it strives to meet growing domestic and global demand for its structural adhesives and gelcoats.
The company has invested $ 16 million to purchase a 110,000 square foot industrial building on a 15 acre site in SouthPoint Business Park on US 601 N.
With additional investment, the site will be transformed into a state-of-the-art gelcoat and structural adhesives manufacturing facility. It will be the company’s second North American manufacturing site; the new development is expected to create 27 new jobs locally, including 21 in manufacturing and other roles shared between HR, R&D, sales support and applications.
The site was specifically selected to tap into North Carolina’s growing high-tech manufacturing sector. The facility will be built with modern design principles and will operate under GMP conditions, manufacturing a range of innovative Scott Bader products. The plant aims to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2023.
âWe are delighted that a company with Scott Bader’s pedigree has chosen our county to invest and expand their offering nationally and internationally,â said Terry Bralley, Chairman of the Davie County Economic Development Commission. âThe new infrastructure will be a great addition to the region and the immediate creation of 27 new jobs is a real economic boost. I hope Scott Bader and our region will benefit each other for many years to come.
Scott Bader is the sixth manufacturer to select Davie County in the past four months.
Last week, DFA USA, which designs and manufactures soundproofing and insulation materials for the automotive industry, announced its expansion and move to Mocksville. As of June, Sportsfield Specialties, the industry’s leading manufacturer of athletic field equipment; Carolina Shutters & Blinds, which manufactures custom plantation shades; Liberty Storage, which designs and builds custom storage buildings; and Hayward Holdings, a global designer and manufacturer of swimming pool equipment and associated automation systems, have established facilities in Mocksville.
Commenting on the latest expansion plans, Art Murphy, Sales Director of Scott Bader North America, said, âThis latest investment clearly demonstrates our commitment to the North American market, as well as our global growth strategy. This is because we are also investing $ 2 million in Canada. We now have the additional capacity we need to be more responsive to customer needs and capitalize on the interest in our non-primer structural adhesives – amplifying the success we have already had with the portfolio.
Scott Bader’s international presence now totals seven manufacturing sites, 17 offices and two joint ventures around the world, with future expansion plans firmly focused on establishing its innovative composites and adhesives products in North America and Asia.
According to a statement from the company, in line with its 2036 vision to steer towards sustainable growth, while increasing its global footprint, environmental impact has been a key consideration throughout North Carolina’s development and will remain at the core. investments in its new site. Investing in people and technology to ensure that construction and ongoing operations are as efficient as possible.
