DOWNS – Tanner G. Springer, 37, of Downs passed away on Wednesday July 14, 2021. His visit will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Tuesday July 20, 2021 at Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington, IL. The memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. also at the church. Private family interment will be in Randolph Township Cemetery in Heyworth, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children of Tanner Springer Memorial Fund c / o Busey Bank in LeRoy, IL. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home will take care of the arrangements.

Tanner was born June 16, 1984 to Howard and Terri (Wickenhauser) Springer in Normal, IL. They survive. He married Kate Meister on June 21, 2008. She survives.

Tanner and Kate’s three boys survive: Deacon, Ryker and Caylum Springer-Downs, IL; her brother Taylor (Natalie) Springer-LeRoy, IL; her sister Mollie Springer-Downs, IL; his niece Evelyn Springer-LeRoy, IL; her paternal grandfather Wesley (Joanne Tria) Springer-Heyworth, IL; and many beloved family and friends.

Tanner was killed by his maternal grandparents: James and Thelma Wickenhauser; and his paternal grandmother Karen Springer.

Tanner was a graduate of Tri-Valley High School, excelling in both athletics and academics. He continued to play baseball in college and received a computer science degree from Illinois Wesleyan University. Immediately after graduation he went to work as a software developer for State Farm for 13 years, then as a software engineer for Enterprise Holdings. He shared his love of the sport with his entire family, especially his boys, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears and Chicago Blackhawks. Many other members of Tanner’s family benefited from his love of the sport through his training in the Viking football and baseball programs. Tanner was also an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying hunting and fishing, and being with his loyal puppies Bandit and Mowgli. What Tanner loved most was being a father and spending time with his family.
