Tesla is preparing for a world where your driver profile can follow you across different cars, whether it’s your personal EV or a rental. The automaker has added a Cloud Profiles section in its latest software version, which points to an option “Activate vehicle synchronization” for saving driver profiles, Tesla Software Update Reports. The news is not a huge surprise, as Elon Musk once said profiles synchronized in the cloud were on their way.

For a tech-driven auto company like Tesla, giving its customers an easy way to bring their settings to multiple vehicles just makes sense. This is especially true after Hertz announced it. would buy 100,000 Teslas for its rental fleet. Although Musk was quick to point out that the order has not yet been placed, it’s not hard to imagine a world where anyone can easily rent a Tesla. They would be easier to maintain than gasoline cars, and the Model 3 is already cheaper than many luxury vehicles.

And of course, for the truly privileged, cloud profiles could also make it easier to sync settings between multiple vehicles. According to Tesla software updates, synchronized settings include your screen brightness, autopilot, and navigation options. It would also help to sync your stop mode, as this seriously changes how Tesla’s braking works.
